Status Report on Robert Tedder

By Sherry Swiney

Robert Tedder went before the Alabama Pardons and Parole Board on June 17, 2002, which was the second postponement of his parole hearing. Hundreds of people wrote letters and there were over 200 signatures on a petition that was sent to the Board recommending that Tedder be released on parole after serving 18 years despite the fact that he's innocent.

As you know, the Pardons and Parole Board in Alabama became nervous with all the letters they received on Robert's behalf. As a result, the Board sent out certified letters searching for opposers. Finally, they turned to Governor Don Siegleman and the Governor wrote a letter requesting that parole be denied for Robert Tedder.

It has been reported that as a result of the Governor's letter, the Alabama Pardons and Parole Board denied parole and put Robert off for 5 more years. FYI - Governor Siegleman is running for re-election in November 2002. Should he be re-elected?

Robert is 56 years old now, in the year 2002. His scheduled release date without parole is January 6, 2014.

He will be 70 years old in 2014. He believes Alabama will make him serve day-for-day. Our hearts go out to Robert and his wife, Eva and the rest who tried to help.

If anyone wishes to send Robert a card, his address is:

Robert Tedder, 147885 #2-42,
Holman 3700
Atmore, AL 36503-3700

Editor's note: Are we going to allow this innocent man to sit in prison for one more day?
