Behind Locked Doors

by Arlene Johnson

These steel doors shut my life away
Without remorse or consideration
To ever see my loved ones again.

Why oh why can't they see I am a
Human being just like all the others?

I have feelings, thoughts, and opinions
That if they'd only let me, I would express.

Don't they realize they're doing to
Humanity what they're doing to us?

Maybe some day they will.
Maybe some day they'll listen.
